Happy at Last

I promised myself that I would blog next time I'm happy so that I can stop being called the "most depressing blog out there" Thanks for sharing everyone. So why I am happy today. Well I found out that I get to stay at my current program. I was originally set to leave after this year and go to another place but I really didn't want to . My family is established here, I have friends and I love the ER here. My new program was fine with me staying and my current program wanted me to stay so everything seemed fine. But then the NRMP stepped in and said that we didn't have the right to change our minds. So, long story short there has been a fight for the last three months to be allowed to stay. And now I finally can
Then I found out I got nominated for best new medical blog fo r2006. I feel very honored. So thank you so much to everyone who cares. You make me happy.

Congrats on both successes! It does pay to be tenacious and stand your ground for what you believe is right for you. :)

P.S. ER's are cool. If I were a physician or nurse, I would want to be in ER or Labor and Delivery. I have a friend that works in OB and she said when it's bad - it is really bad, but most of the time she likes it. Neat thing about ED Docs - when their shift is done they are done - no on call stuff. It's interesting how the ED nurses never want to work on the floors and the floor nurses want no part of the ED. Must be a calling of sorts. :)

Irish doc,

I have been reading your blog a lot lately and I really enjoy it.

One question for you; if you had to do it over would you go to med school again?

I am struggling with giving up my career and starting over. I am in my 30's with wife and kids...

I feel like I am not being true to myself by not following my heart to medicine.

Just a brief note. You've been away for a while. I just hope you're well - for what it's worth from a stranger. Come back when the spirit moves you.

I'd say congrats, well done, and you deserve it, but it seems like the words have been taken right out of my mouth by the above commenters.

So all I can say is *claps hand on back heartily*

Glad you're happy again!

Nevermind my other question for you on the previous post. I see you are an ER doc. Congrats on your successes. Ohh and on the good side of life, you'll never have call after you are done. :-)

Thanks for taking the time to blog. It really is nice to be able to hear real stories about residents and doctors and why so many doctors are disgruntled and reserved. It helps us to better understand what others go through even though its not the same as living it through it ourselves. At least we are able to see the other side from the real life perspective.

As with the other anonymous blogger, I too am considering going to medical school. I love reading your blog. I a 30 year old female, married and do not have kids. It has been a lifelong dream of mine to go, but I don't think it is a practical decision. I applied to nursing school thinking I would be satisfied with being an NP... Any advice?

Hello,

I just found your blog and like it very much, thank you! I read the story about "where you have been" and my heart and prayers go out to you, especially after reading the horrible, cruel remaks of one entry. You made such a very difficult decision and I hope you will find peace and joy, the joy that you deserve. Oh, congrats on the award as well. I look forward to reading your blog, er medicine, as does all medicine, fascinates me.

Take best of care,
Sincerely,
